A Crucifixion Type Love

Ever since I’ve watched this video, A Crucifixion Type Love by Brent Rice, it has been in my thoughts on nearly a daily basis.

When I was growing up in the fifties and sixties, I dreamed of the fairy tale wedding. Notice I said wedding, not marriage. In the fifties it was all about the pretty dress, a pretty ring and oh yeah, the “right guy.” I never thought beyond that.

The sixties changed my view of that to some extent and by the time I was a young adult in the early seventies, I thought I had met “the one.” That first love was so intense that while we sat next to each other at any given moment, I felt like we had meshed together into one being.

Neither one of us was religious, so there was no “crucifixion type love.” We had big dreams for our future together: a beautifully furnished home, travel and no kids. At that time I thought that having no children would break the cycle of what my mother had done to me.

After being engaged for two years, the knowledge of his cheating was unavoidable. I returned the ring and we tried to untangle our lives.  It was messy and it took me a long time to move on.

By the time I met my husband, I had no idea what I was going to do with my life and even after I converted and we got married, I had no idea what a “crucifixion type love” was.

After thirty-one years of marriage this month, I can honestly say that this is the type of love I want, this is the type of marriage my husband and I were made for, this is what God had intended when he brought us together.

A crucifixion type love is what we all deserve.
