Cardinal George Urges Parishioners to Oppose Gay Marriage

On January 1, Cardinal George issued a letter urging parishioners to contact their legislators and voice opposition to gay marriage.  You can read the short article in the Chicago Tribune here.

Though the topic might be a politically touchy subject, opposition to it by Roman Catholic leaders should not be a surprise.  The surprising part came from the comments beneath the article.

I don’t live under a rock, but I was still unprepared for some of the comments.  Are some of these people former Catholics?  Atheists?  Agnostics?  Where does that kind of venom come from?

One answer could be a quote from Mother Angelica, “If you’re not a thorn in somebody’s side, you’re not doing Christianity right.”
