Let There Be Light

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss,
while a mighty wind swept over the waters.

Then God said,
“Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw how good the light was.
God then separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.”
Thus evening came, and morning followed-the first day.  Genesis 1-5 (NAB)
Today’s first reading is from Genesis and the complete reading is verses 1-19.  All Christians become familiar with how our world was first made.  In my early years in this journey, I read the Gospels because I wanted to know Jesus and I still do.  It is after all, an ongoing relationship.

I thought about that first light.  I can’t imagine witnessing it for the first time because it is something I take for granted.  I get up in the morning and everything is there.  But sometimes, especially during the summer, when I’ve gotten up early and there’s that bit of stillness I can almost hear God breathing.
