The September 2016 SuperMommy Digest

I’m happy to say, in addition to my usual blogging and freelancing, I’ve accepted a job writing for a nonprofit that works to end human trafficking. So far, it hasn’t slowed down my output by a lot, and I hope that soon, I’ll be able to share all the amazing work we’re doing to stop the exploitation with all of you!

In the meantime, here’s a roundup of what you might have missed through the month of September:

Talking to Kids About Suicide and Mental Illness on Scary Mommy
September included Suicide Prevention Week, and I was honored to have a chance to tell the world about my experience as a suicidal child. Yes, child. Did you know suicide is the second leading cause of death for children between the ages of 10-18? Ten year olds kill themselves. So what can you do to help your child? Brock Turner got out of jail, and millions of parents asked themselves, how can I make sure this isn’t MY kid? How can I make sure my kid isn’t only safe from predators, but how can I make sure they don’t become a sexual predator themselves? If you haven’t asked yourself that question, you should. Read the article to find out what you can do.

This Is How I’ll Love You on YourTango
When I’m not writing about how to tackle serious, serious issues in parenting, I write about how much I love M. So if you need a warm fuzzy feeling, click the link and read about how absurdly in love with my husband I am, and how living in the moment can mean ignoring it when it happens.

Spoil Me With Your Love, Not With Your Money on YourTango
Stuff isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I should know, I used to be rich. And I used to be poor. And I know what having money and things really means.

This has been an unprecedented year for the United States, and Scary Mommy has decided, as I have, that the election is absolutely a parenting issue. I am incredibly proud to help dispel the misinformation about Hillary Clinton, and to highlight her many, many accomplishments.

On the terrifying rise of anti-semitism in America.

On how voting in this election can slow down the current resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan.

The double standard we hold for Hillary Clinton versus literally anyone else on earth.
