Week 8 NFL Game Preview: Chicago Bears at New Orleans Saints

Week 8 NFL Game Preview: Chicago Bears at New Orleans Saints

The Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints will meet Sunday with a lot on the line.

Both teams are figuring things out at the right time. The Saints are winners of four straight after a 0-2 start to the season while the Bears sit at 3-4 following their first two-game winning streak since 2015.

Quarterback Drew Brees has been slinging the football successfully for a long time while his opponent Mitch Trubisky has studied his game for a long time.

It will be fun to see the rookie quarterback mature this week on the road playing on a turf field.

Regardless of the fact that offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains’ non-aggressive approach.

There is a good chance that Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen find plenty of running room in this game. The Saints defense ranks 30th in the NFL in yards per attempt (4.9) and 20th in rushing yards per game allowed (114.2).

New Orleans’ pass defense currently ranks 21st in pass defense allowing 237 yards per game and opposing quarterbacks to a rating of 84.2.

Key defensive matchup: WR Michael Thomas vs. CB Kyle Fuller

No. 1 Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas leads his group with 35 catches for 403 yards. He also has two touchdowns. The Ohio State product is dealing with a knee injury following the win over Green Bay. However, he was removed from the injury report after practicing in full on Friday.

He’ll likely see a heavy dose of Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara at outside corner. Both corners have been very solid for the Bears over the last few weeks. Brandon Coleman is another outside receiver that will be a worry for the Bears, but Thomas presents the biggest challenge. Expect to see safety Eddie Jackson to be flying around the field with his confidence at a all-time high.

This should be fun to watch. Thomas has three totaled 80 plus yards in four outings while gobbling up 53 total targets on the season.

Key offensive matchup: Bears’ offensive line against DL Cameron Jordan

We all know how good Saints defensive lineman Cameron Jordan is. The veteran has been dominant for New Orleans over the years. So far, so good for him this season as he leads the defense with five sacks. The unit has 17 sacks in total and are overachieving a bit.

Jordan lines up all over the defensive line, inside and outside and will be a tall task for the Bears. Charles Leno Jr. has held his own for much of the season, but he’s had some lapses. Don’t be shocked to see Jordan go after right tackle Bobby Massie and center Cody Whitehair. The Saints know guards Kyle Long and Josh Sitton are elite players.

Everyone will have to do their part in slowing down Jordan. Protecting Trubisky is essential if this offense wants to score enough points to beat Brees and company.

Stat predictions
