There is a saying in Spain when you are asked about your wishes for the New Year: “que me quede igual o mejor.” Loosely translated: “may I stay the same as this year or better.”
2012 was not an awesome year, not an outstanding year for me but it was good enough. My family is healthy; the adults are employed; the children are thriving. We had our share of obstacles but all surmountable. In fact, as I write this, I feel extremely lucky. The highlights: renewing a contract for a job I love and being pregnant with my second child.
Even though the last months of the year always test my patience, between death anniversaries and constant illnesses, I could skip September to December, my only wish for 2013 is that it’s as good or better than 2012.
I have a feeling this year’s highlight will happen early on, end of March, beginning of April with the arrival of our son. From then on I just pray it only gets better.
And that, dear Ay Mama readers, is my wish for all of you, that the New Year is even better than the one ending tonight. A healthy, happy, and peaceful 2013 for all. Ay Mama!
