Andersonville Demolition Reveals Circa 1907

When an old abandoned auto shop was torn down on Clark Street in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood, a piece of  history was revealed. Located at 5438 N Clark, this Coca Cola sign has been hidden for a very long time.

The building located at 5438 North Clark Street was reportedly built in 1913, the advertisement used on the building was widely used starting in 1907. The building torn down at 5434 North Clark  may have been built in the 1920’s.

The same sign can be seen in this 1916 photo looking north on Clark Street. Information from Coca-Cola History and Coke Memorabilia, the slogan used in this sign began in 1907 when the Coca Cola slogan was: “Drink Coca-Cola Delicious Refreshing. Relieves Fatigue. Sold Everywhere 5c”
