ABC Loves Improvisers

The ABC network has a great Wednesday night lineup now. ABCupfronts.jpg

And most of them are actually pretty good. In a quiet move, it looks like ABC is breaking NBC’s seeming monopoly of Chicago Improvisers in their shows. On Wednesdays, it’s FOUR shows in a row featuring Chicago Improv Alumni.

Hank is a new show starring Kelsey Grammar, but it has improviser Dave Koechner hank_2009-show.jpg as his blue-collar brother-in-law. Then it’s The Middle with ex-Scrubs Janitor (Jan Itor), Neil Flynn as the husband to Patricia Heaton’s beleaguered hausfrau.115503_d_028r1_pre-400x500.jpg
Dave and Neil also perform together at iO LA on the improv ensemble, Beer Shark Micethumb_beersharkmice.jpeg
Right after that, Modern Family (probably the best new comedy this year, with Community a close second) is directed by Chicago Alum (and Northwestern grad) Jason Winer. Then it’s the Courtney Cox vehicle, CougarTown with Chicago Alum Ian Gomezcougar-town1.jpg
That’s a lot of grads on the same network at the same time! Great going, guys! and Thanks ABC!
