Now that we’re getting out into unmasked crowds of people, it’s easy to forget about the importance of maintaining our immune systems.
But it’s actually the best time to support your immunity so you won’t get rattled by every sniffle and sneeze.
One of the keys of maintaining your immune health is with fish oil — a dietary source of omega-3 fatty acids. Your body needs omega-3 for everything from cell growth to muscle strength.
The best way to get omega-3s is to eat fatty fish — as long as it’s not fried — such as salmon, trout, oysters, mussels and shellfish.
You may also choose fish-oil supplements, but beware taking too high a dose, and, as with vitamins, it’s best to eat real food rather than take pills. So check with your doctor and look for products from reputable providers such as Elm & Rye, MadeWell, Nordic Naturals and Thorne Omega Plus.
You may also get omega 3 fatty acids in cod liver oil, which also contains Vitamins A and D, which act as anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories.
