The Journey to Zen Living in Chicago

It was when I was about ten years old that I realized I saw the world differently. Thankfully, my camera was my escape to create images that brought a finer focus to the details in life that even at such a young age, I felt others were overlooking. I did not recognize at the time that there was an essence of a spiritual connection that I seemed to be drawn to. In my pursuit of finding answers, I studied Asian culture and design and found that through photography, especially infrared photography, I could see beyond and into the  Zen of Living.

Zen has historical roots that are easily comprehended by understanding Dharma. Yet that is not why I am here, and my blogs will not be a lesson in Eastern philosophy... it is about taking the lessons learned, the teachings experienced, the words revealed and bringing Zen into your every day life,  just as I have for so many years. Zen is in the now.

The journey begins when you are ready. It can begin when you look up and decide I will not live in this chaos anymore. It is when you decide what is important and what you have no need for. It can begin when you want to heal your body with alternative holistic choices, and it can begin with bringing yourself closer to nature by experiencing tranquility through nature, water and light. The closer you are to your nature, the closer you are to the truth.

Beyond Zen, my friends is the quiet way, going with the flow of what we have to do each and every day. Yet, people will always say to me "M, you have so much energy and excitement in the way you express yourself.. it is so un-Zen." I laugh and ask if they expect to see a solemn, quiet person reflecting a Zen lifestyle? I ask them is it  because I meditate, that I am a vegetarian, that I respect nature and all living creatures that I am suppose to be quiet? This is the difference my friends, Zen Living is my design, your design. Zen is not meant to be locked in stagnant truths. Living a Zen lifestyle is about change, opening your eyes and senses to new experiences that connect with you, and that you become who you are meant to be.

Each week I will share with you what contemporary Zen Living, in today's world is all about. It will open your eyes to new experiences, new places, new ideas, new designs and concepts that you might have never realized were a part of Zen Living. It is my mission to inspire and enlighten you, so that you will, even if it is only one aspect of Zen, embrace it into your life. It is a path we will take together.

See beyond what is ordinary, the extraordinary is when you will discover Zen. - Buddha

A true Zen experience begins today. I am blessed for sharing Zen Living by design with you.

Love & Light... M
