Other than Marco Rubio, Michael Steele and Allen West (Florida Tea-Party Republican), more and more Republicans look like the Presidential candidates: rich, white, male, and stodgy. People at Republican presidential election events either are rich, white and stodgy or aspire to be.
I know I’m over-generalizing. But when you look at the evidence of how many different types of people Republicans have marginalized in two years, I question whether the party will be viable in another 20 years unless there is a major change in direction.
By 2050, minorities will be the majority in America. Minorities, classified as those of any race other than non-Hispanic, single-race whites, currently constitute about a third of the U.S. population, according to Census figures. But by 2042, they are projected to become the majority, making up more than half the population. By 2050, 54 percent of the population will be minorities.
Through its policy initiatives and its fear of pulling back the fringe elements of its party, the Republican Party has rejected the outreach of minorities. They have gone after a major voting block in Latinos by demonizing illegal immigration and rejecting the DREAM Act; it has implicitly gone after blacks (not a block they had a chance at wooing in large numbers with Barack Obama as President) with its continued failure to stand up to "birthers," which many people, regardless of race, find not so veiled racist overtones.
The GOP could go after both groups by simply asking "are you in a better position today after decades of voting for democrats, or should you look in a different direction?"
But it doesn’t. And it won’t. Republicans are too busy keeping taxes down for the 1%.
A recent Fox News poll of 1,200 Latino voters underscores the Republican Party’s problems with the fast growing block of voters. The survey found that 60 percent of likely Latino voters believe that the Democrats will help them achieve the American Dream, while only 10 percent thought the Republican Party would do so. Democrats are winning over Latino voters with a 2-1 margin.
Couple its lack of outreach to minorities with its downright assault on women, the GOP really needs to look at whether it will be viable after another couple election cycles. Like Sarah Palin before him, Rick Santorum is unintentionally tearing the party up. Angrily tearing into the President calling him a snob because he wants all Americans to go to college, is two things: terribly off message when you have a flawed President and indicative of Santorum’s desire to keep people uneducated, ignorant, and dependent upon the "1%" Republicans feverishly woo.
Pivoting off the economy to discuss women’s health and contraception will be the party’s undoing. The photograph of House Republicans having a hearing on contraception, without having a woman testify, speaks volumes about who Republicans listen to. Then when a woman does give an opinion on contraception, she is vilified by the right as a slut? At their own risk, Republicans are going back to the days when women were only good for making babies, on their husbands’ terms.
It’s not only the debate on contraception, but Republicans have gone after Planned Parenthood. Last May, Indiana passed legislation prohibiting Planned Parenthood in Indiana from receiving federal funding. The Indiana law bars federal funding for "any entity that performs abortion or maintains or operates a facility where abortions are performed."
The legislation hurts Indiana women because it completely ignores the mission of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood provides various health services to women including cancer screenings and family planning guidance. Planned Parenthood provides Pap smears, breast exams, STD checks, and basic reproductive health to its patients– the vast majority of them being low-income women. Nationally, abortions make up less than 3% of Planned Parenthood services.
This is the reason why women aren’t listening to Rick Santorum. Polls have shown that a huge gender gap exists among Republican women with Romney leading in this demographic by over 20 points. If Santorum continues to define the debate, independent women will not only turn off Santorum, but the Republican Party.
Republican Party strategist, Whit Ayres recently stated the party could not lose Latino voters two to one and continue to be viable as a national party. The numbers won’t allow it.
What happens if Republicans lose women too?
Are we witnessing the beginning of the end of the Grand Ole Party?

The Democrats are following Marx's teachings that rely on revolution to gain power and control of governments. The GOP or at least the conservative non-Marxists will return, when the revolution here fails. US Marxists/Democrats are only in stage two now, assimilation within capitalism, while promoting revolution from within. They need to demonize anyone that disagrees with them, using the press, that is under Marxist control.
OK. Thanks for reading and commenting. Can you give me an example of the revolution from within democrats are promoting throug the liberal media?
The article should be; if Democrats run the country, will USA be around in 20 years?
Asia for Asians, Africa for Africans, White countries for everyone????????
Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into White countries.
The Netherlands and Belgium are more crowded than Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.
Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY White countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-Whites.
What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries? How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem? And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this?
But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the White race, Liberals and respectable conservatives will just say that I’m a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.
They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-White.
Anti-racist is a code word for anti-White.
I have so many different ways I could reply to your comment. I'm keeping it up only because, although offensive, people should read your opinion, however factually inaccurate. Just so you know, history did not begin when the Founders signed the Declaration of Independence. Use your argument and answer the question of whether "whites" when they settled on the North American continent, were settling in a non-white country. Using your logic, the United States should not exist.
I can't get this line from the movie "Billy Madison" out of my head in thinking about your comment:
"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
You have a serious mental problem please get some help!!
Mr. Thomas your article is so spot on! and after reading some of the other responses here all their doing is proving your point!! Lets get serious! the gop is going to either change it RACIST-SEXEST- STONE AGE THINKING or simply go the way of the WHIG PARTY. Mr Thomas lets understand the gop and the southern strategy has worked for over 50 yrs! drumming up the johnny rebel vote the phoney so called christians evangelic vote. It's so pathetic many republicans don't even know the extent of the southern strategy is about, the gop basically bought religious southern church leaders FALWELL-ROBERTSON- ECT ECT to preach gop promote republicancandidates, philosophy, HATE in they're CHURCHS!!! UNREAL! See Mr Thomas the government doesn't TAX churches and many southern churchs that sold their souls to the gop and make millions on conning, lying to ignorant southern church goers. Thats why the republican party is a regional party the SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST the rural shot gun wheeling daniel boone culture. As a christian myself I find it SICKING that people who call themselves christians remotely rationalize voting republican!!! I'm not a democrat and unlike many lost, confused christians I don't look for politicians to usher in ANY religious views. In short in party of mostly insane wars, racism, anti science, anti women's freedom is dying THANK GOD!!
