Is Darth Vader more popular than Congress?

Congress is not terribly popular. Its popularity is at its lowest level ever. The latest Gallup poll shows Congressional approval rating at 10%.

Ten Percent!

I need to watch Fox News patiently awaiting one of those fire breathing Republicans to come on to denounce the president calling him a socialist, because it would just be too ironic. According to a CBS/New York Times poll from last month, more people viewed socialism positively than Congress. 33% of Americans polled viewed it positively.

More people viewed BP during the Gulf oil spill favorably than Congress. Remember when oil was gushing out of that uncapped pipe for weeks on national television? While BP was polluting the Gulf of Mexico and single handedly killing the fishing and tourism industries in no less than four states, its approval rating was 16%.

Tricky Dick Nixon was more popular than Congress. President Nixon had to resign in disgrace telling everyone that he was not a crook. During the height of the Watergate scandal his approval rating was 24%.

I snicker when I see the George W. Bush signs that say "Miss Me Yet?" My answer is no, although there are times during this Administration where I wished Obama acted a little more like Bush. I digress. The point is Bush was more popular than Congress is now (28% at his lowest). So, maybe relative to Congress, the answer to the rhetorical question is "Yes!"

Paris Hilton is even more popular than Congress. According to an August poll, Hilton’s unfavorable rating was 60%. A whopping 86% of people disapprove of Congress.

I'm not certain what Darth Varder's approval rating is.

  • I mentioned on Chicago Political Commentary that even Blago's and Stroger's ratings were above this.

Also, Congress, both houses and both sides of the aisle, have royally earned this. I put more on "Hairy" Reid, who keeps saying that stuff from the House is "dead on arrival" without realizing that that assures that nothing gets passed. Apparently no one has heard of the conference committee.

On the other hand, Darth Vader's only problem was that he was pulled over to the dark side, and he probably outpolls Jar Jar Binks. Geoff Peterson says that R2D2 is a jerk, too.
