.....it's really put a large dent in my Easter basket. Yes, I'm 32 and yes I love candy. Big whoop, you wanna fight about it?
Let me start off by saying, I love my nieces and nephews, they're great. They're funny, goofy and fun to have around. But I'll tell ya, in the past few years I've gone from having one nephew to two nieces and two nephews. I haven't really noticed until this year, but my Easter basket, which was once a gorgeous, big wicker basket, lined with green plastic grass and a huge array of delicious candies and chocolates, is now no basket at all. I remember friends coming over the week after Easter and us comparing baskets. There was even some light candy trading going on. A mini Reese's peanut butter cup was an even swap with 2 pastel peanut M&M's. Now if you waned to swap, say, a Reese's peanut egg for something, that required something a little more valuable, like a Cadbury Egg.
Oh how times have changed, I'm stuck to finding old Jelly Belly's and Hershey's Kisses in a Ziplock bag in the bottom drawer of my parents pantry. I've also come to find out that Grandma (my mom ) has hidden plastic eggs through out the house and lawn, filled with money for the kids. I'm not talking about pennies here, I'm talking quarters and even some dollar bills. Serious cash. I even heard a rumor from this guy, who knows this kid, who's going with the girl that saw Ferris pass out at 31 flavors last night, that one of these plastic eggs has the keys to a brand new Mustang inside. Now, what would a 6 month old, a 9 year old, a 10 year old and an 11 year old need a brand new Mustang for? I know it's just a rumor, but still.
Maybe it's just hard to give up that part of your childhood. It's like when your Grandparents start to leave you. You close another chapter in your life even if you really don't want to. I guess all I can say is, I hope these kids have just as many wonderful memories of the Holidays at the Dudas household as I do. My only hope of having some delicious Easter candy now, would be the charity of my nieces and nephews. How about it Jack, Julian, Payton and Emma? Pretty please? Have pity on poor Uncle James?
Happy Easter everyone!
