Normally I wouldn't do this, but there's no Cubs baseball until next Friday. There are a couple Cubs playing in the All-Star Game but that doesn't really count. So we're going to recap all the power displays we saw today by Cubs players and prospects. Cool? Alright!
Arismendy Alcantara, Chicago (MLB) Cubs
It took a few days, but Arismendy Alcantara found the right field bleachers at Wrigley Field for career major league home run #1, from the left side, on an 0-2 pitch. How about that? He's probably sticking around for a bit.
Look at Julio Teheran, he's like, "Eh, I guess he got me." Ha!
Javier Baez, All-Star Futures Game
Javy was representing the Cubs (Iowa edition) at the Futures Game in Minneapolis, playing for the World Squad. He very briefly put the World team up before Joey Gallo's own big blast, but this was really sweet.
That looked to be towards the deepest part of the park and over that big wall, too, so that was a big boy homer.
Jorge Soler, Tennessee Smokies
No video yet, but Soler helped spark the Smokies to victory with two long bombs. The other nice thing? He's playing right field and staying healthy for now. Let's see more of this and maybe Soler will come up sooner rather than later.
UPDATE: Oh look, I found one from the Smokies:
Billy McKinney, Daytona Cubs
Jeimer Candelario, Kane County Cougars
Candelario got demoted but seems to have found his groove, smacking two big flies to power Kane County's victory on Sunday.
As a great Hall of Fame pitcher once said, "Chicks dig the long ball."
Enjoy the Home Run Derby on Monday, some of these guys might be there someday.
