Women are Chattel: the lasting message of Akin?

From Dictionary.com:

chat·tel

1. Law . a movable article of personal property. 2. any article of tangible property other than land, buildings, and other things annexed to land. 3. a slave.

In Representative Todd Akin's comments that there are types of "legitimate rape" and that women's bodies are equipped to deal with such assault, and with GOP media pundit Mike Huckabee (huckster-maybe?) essentially backing him up . . . one has to ponder:

does their type of radical fringe conservatism (the type apparently, currently ruling the Republican Party) simply still see women as chattel?

This comment which is but the latest in a long list of similar verbiage, the Republican Party's anti-choice platform, and their general "war on women" hostility seems to suggest as much.
