Whiskey Mixology

In recent years there has been a resurgence of the cocktail.  The bartender has been elevated to a mixologist. And fresh ingredients and old recipes have made a comeback.  I like it.  I have done some of my own research on Prohibition era cocktails.  How about a little Absinthe with your whiskey?

I do love my whiskey neat, but I also appreciate the creativity and fun of cocktails. Cocktails are also a good introduction to spirits and a good way to start an evening.

Some of my favorite classic whiskey cocktails are an Old Fashioned and the Sazerac.

Old Fashioned Recipe:

2 oz Bourbon

1/2 oz simple syrup

3-5 dashes Angostura bitters

marachino cherry

orange peel

Sazerac Recipe

2 oz Rye Whiskey

1/2 oz simple syrup

5 dashes Peychaud's bitters

1 tsp Absinthe (rinse glass and discard)

lemon peel

What are some of your favorite whiskey cocktails?  Clueless as to how to make cocktails?  Join me next Tuesday for a fun whiskey mixology crash course!  We will be mixing up some premium whiskies such as Woodford Reserve and Old Forrester with local business owner, Melissa Yen of Jo Snow Syrups.  Tuesday, 6:30pm at English Bar and Grill 444 N. LaSalle Seating is limited. Pre-purchase your tickets at Whiskey Sister.com

Cheers!!
