In Photos: Chicago School Closings Protest 3/27/2013

Thousands of people turned out to protest last week’s announcement that 54 Chicago schools will be closing by this fall to help close a $1 billion deficit. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett maintain that the closures are necessary because so many Chicago Public School buildings are half-empty. Here are some photos of the day's events taken by members of the Chicago Street Photography Group:

  • Nice photos! The budget requries these closures in order to properly fund the remaining schools. although it is a sad reality, it is a reality that the money available is limited and the best uses must be made of it.
