In Photos: Chicago School Closings Protest 3/27/2013

Thousands of people turned out to protest last week’s announcement that 54 Chicago schools will be closing by this fall to help close a $1 billion deficit. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett maintain that the closures are necessary because so many Chicago Public School buildings are half-empty. Police arrested approximately 150 protesters who were participating in a direct action sit-in on LaSalle Street during today's school closing demonstration:

This was the first protester to be arrested.
