While stormy Chicago weather may not be fun, at least it typically brings along a nice cool front behind it. With nice, cool summer days in the forecast, it is the perfect time to get out and enjoy these Chicagoland summer activities. Here are the top five ways you should make the most of this beautiful summertime weather:
1. Mow the lawn
This one might not be quite as fun as the other entries on this list, but it’s a pretty smart idea. When the weather breaks it’s always a good idea to mow the lawn so you don’t get stuck doing it on a 90 degree day with sweltering humidity. It might not be fun, but it might save you from heat stroke later in the week.
2. Check out movie nights or music nights in the park
Many communities and suburbs host a weekly event in the town park. From movies to live music, your community probably has something they offer up for free once a week. Also, many communities also host classic car nights once a week during the summer. It’s a nice way to spend a cool summertime evening.
3. Go for a hike
The Chicago area is home to hundreds of local forest preserves and miles of trails. A cool day is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy some fresh air in your local forest preserve. You will still need bug spray and sunblock is always a good idea, but a cool day means you can comfortably enjoy the beautiful hikes waiting for you in our area.
4. Visit the zoo
It doesn’t matter if you prefer Brookfield or Lincoln Park Zoo, either one is an excellent choice for a cool and breezy day. Going to the zoo in the summertime is a Chicago tradition, but you don’t need to do it in the sweltering heat. As an added bonus, the animals are almost always more active on the cool days than they are in the sweltering heat.
5. Make backyard S’mores
A cool summer evening is the perfect time to fire up your backyard fire pit and enjoy making s’mores with the family. You should always exercise fire safety, but this can be a fun and relaxing way to wind down a beautiful summer day.
