People Magazine: Shame on you for putting The Kim Kardashian/Kanye West wedding on your cover

I have been reading People Magazine since the first issue sporting Mia Farrow on the cover in March 1974. Sometimes their coverage of events is understandable. Other times it is reprehensible. It’s never pissed me off enough to stop reading though. That may change after this weeks issue. It’s no secret that I loathe Kim... Read more »

Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus: Fashion choices gone wrong, so wrong

Once upon a time in Hollywood we had beautiful women that exemplified class and style. Think: Katherine Hepburn. Grace Kelly. Rita Hayworth. Lauren Bacall. Icons that set the standards for fashion trends and beauty. And then there is today. After I nearly gouged my eyes out at the sight of what “fashion” in Hollywood has... Read more »

The Oscars: My favorite all timers that may or may not have won a golden statue

The Oscars: My favorite all timers that may or may not have won a golden statue
Every year the world gears up for The Oscars. Hollywood’s best of the best. I don’t always agree with the Academy on their choices and I’ll be curious to see how things fare this evening. This year of movies was more about individual performances instead of actual films. I didn’t love the ones I saw,... Read more »

A Seat at the Bar, with Elvis

A Seat at the Bar, with Elvis
Walking into a seedy old bar in Memphis, I was alone and needed a cocktail. I don’t typically frequent bars by myself but I just needed to think. I saw a man sitting at the end of the bar and couldn’t really catch his face at first. He had thick hair, almost completely gray and... Read more »

Bill Engvall and Dancing With the Stars: You gotta hand it to him

Bill's pretty shocked and happy to hear that no one is being eliminated on this night. A technical glitch in the judging saves him for the week. He certainly would have been safe anyway as we now know.
When season 17 of Dancing With the Stars began, many wondered who they were calling stars. I joked it should be called “Dancing With the Sort of Kinda Know Who That Person is But Can’t Place Them”. I barely recognized any of these “stars” except for Snooki, who I’d hardly have called a star and... Read more »

The age of innocence: where did it go and will we ever have it back?

The age of innocence: where did it go and will we ever have it back?
I just watched the beloved movie from 1960, “Where the Boys Are”. It was full of cheesy lines, modest bathing suits and suited young men coming to pick up their dates. It was spring break in Fort Lauderdale, but over fifty years ago. I was three years old when the movie was made and had my... Read more »

The end of the BRCA series: a wrap up

Wow, what a month. When I first decided to do a series on the BRCA gene I really didn’t realize what was involved. Looking back I will never regret a second of it. But I do have some thoughts on the month. First, my guest posters. My amazing, brave group of women (and one man!)... Read more »

Dexter series finale: just no way to have a good ending

Dexter series finale: just no way to have a good ending
I don’t know about you but I have been a die hard fan of Dexter for several years. Anyone that knows me was shocked at the fact that here I am, afraid of any sharp object that comes within a hundred yards of me, loving a show about a serial killer who stabs his victims... Read more »

Kim and Kanye's new daughter: What's up with the name North??

Kim and Kanye's new daughter: What's up with the name North??
It’s not a secret that I have come to loathe all things Kimye. I’ve never been a Kim Kardashian fan and there’s  lot of people that hate me for it. They defend her to the ends of the Earth. But I want to know how, any of those people in their right mind can defend... Read more »

The Bachelor: Girls please stop participating in this twisted attempt at love

The Bachelor: Girls please stop participating in this twisted attempt at love
I’ve admitted to watching The Bachelor many times prior to this season. It’s always been like a fascinating train wreck to me – call it my gaper’s block so to speak. I can’t stop watching even though I know that it’s mindless, ridiculous, staged, cruel and sad.  Sure, this season has had it’s share of... Read more »
