People Magazine: Shame on you for putting The Kim Kardashian/Kanye West wedding on your cover

I have been reading People Magazine since the first issue sporting Mia Farrow on the cover in March 1974. Sometimes their coverage of events is understandable. Other times it is reprehensible. It’s never pissed me off enough to stop reading though. That may change after this weeks issue. It’s no secret that I loathe Kim... Read more »

Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus: Fashion choices gone wrong, so wrong

Once upon a time in Hollywood we had beautiful women that exemplified class and style. Think: Katherine Hepburn. Grace Kelly. Rita Hayworth. Lauren Bacall. Icons that set the standards for fashion trends and beauty. And then there is today. After I nearly gouged my eyes out at the sight of what “fashion” in Hollywood has... Read more »

The Bachelor Juan Pablo: is he really a jerk or just an honest guy?
So now, the end is here and so we’ve faced the final curtain….Yes folks, for all of us who have endured what was not the most dramatic season of The Bachelor but the most annoying by far, it is over. The whole season was based on announcements of “the most shocking”, “the first time ever”... Read more »

The Oscars: My favorite all timers that may or may not have won a golden statue

The Oscars: My favorite all timers that may or may not have won a golden statue
Every year the world gears up for The Oscars. Hollywood’s best of the best. I don’t always agree with the Academy on their choices and I’ll be curious to see how things fare this evening. This year of movies was more about individual performances instead of actual films. I didn’t love the ones I saw,... Read more »

A Seat at the Bar, with Elvis

A Seat at the Bar, with Elvis
Walking into a seedy old bar in Memphis, I was alone and needed a cocktail. I don’t typically frequent bars by myself but I just needed to think. I saw a man sitting at the end of the bar and couldn’t really catch his face at first. He had thick hair, almost completely gray and... Read more »

Bill Engvall and Dancing With the Stars: You gotta hand it to him

Bill's pretty shocked and happy to hear that no one is being eliminated on this night. A technical glitch in the judging saves him for the week. He certainly would have been safe anyway as we now know.
When season 17 of Dancing With the Stars began, many wondered who they were calling stars. I joked it should be called “Dancing With the Sort of Kinda Know Who That Person is But Can’t Place Them”. I barely recognized any of these “stars” except for Snooki, who I’d hardly have called a star and... Read more »

The end of the BRCA series: a wrap up

Wow, what a month. When I first decided to do a series on the BRCA gene I really didn’t realize what was involved. Looking back I will never regret a second of it. But I do have some thoughts on the month. First, my guest posters. My amazing, brave group of women (and one man!)... Read more »

Elton John is coming to Allstate Arena and I need a meet and greet!

Elton John is coming to Allstate Arena and I need a meet and greet!
Anyone who knows me, or should I say knows me well associates me with Elton John. So of course when it was announced that he was coming to the Allstate Arena on November 30 I was notified immediately by my sister. And of course, the anxiety that I always feel when I know he is... Read more »

Dexter series finale: just no way to have a good ending

Dexter series finale: just no way to have a good ending
I don’t know about you but I have been a die hard fan of Dexter for several years. Anyone that knows me was shocked at the fact that here I am, afraid of any sharp object that comes within a hundred yards of me, loving a show about a serial killer who stabs his victims... Read more »

Project Runway and Michael Kors: Oh how I've missed him!

Project Runway and Michael Kors: Oh how I've missed him!
Tonight’s episode of Project Runway had the one element I have been missing all season: Michael Kors commentaries. Or Michael Kors in general. Sometimes the age old saying, “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” holds so very true. This has been a good season so far with regards to designing. There are... Read more »
