As I'm sure you're all aware, with the start of summer there has been an increase of crime in the city - specifically in Boystown.
Over the past few weeks there have been numerous muggings, attacks and even stabbings in the middle of our community - something needs to give. To help combat some of the problems in the neighborhood a group is trying to organize some Positive Loitering by simply walking around the neighborhood in groups to let those who are trying to cause trouble that we won't stand for it.
On June 18th, 20-year old Anthony Bledsoe, who according to his MySpace page is part of The Almighty Black P-stones Nation gang, attacked someone with a knife in the 7-11 parking lot at the corner of Halsted and Roscoe. Prior to that though, there have been numerous muggings in the neighboring community.
Here are the details from the Facebook Page:
We are going to do a neighborhood walk/positive loitering event this coming Saturday, July 2nd. We will meet in the 7-11 parking lot on the corner of Halsted and Roscoe at 11:45 pm.
This event is being organized to not only help educate those not familiar with the issues of the neighborhood, but as an outreach initiative to help bring to light some of the concerns of the local citizens to folks who are coming to the neighborhood and hanging out.
We will also try to coordinate for the off duty police who are paid by North Halsted Business Alliance to walk the streets on nights/weekends, as well as some of the on duty police to stop by and introduce themselves.
This will allow everyone to become familiar with those who are there for our protection and maybe get a few words of advice on how to make our neighborhood safer.
Working together as a community is a small step in addressing these issues and I hope to see as many of you as possible.
