For the first time EVER majority of Americans favor legal same-sex marriage

A recent Gallup poll shows that for the first time ever, a majority of Americans favor legal gay marriage.

Since 1996 Gallup has been asking the same question: Do you think that marriages between same-sex couples should or should not be recognized by the law as valid, with the same rights as traditional marriages? The first time it was asked the response was 68% NO and just 27% YES. The past few years have seen the numbers converge but for the first time ever, the Yes' outweigh the No's.

When this question was asked, for the first time 53% of Americans feel that same-sex marriage (SSM) should be equal to "traditional marriage."  That's a 9 point jump from last year!  Not surprisingly the younger demographic (18-34) favor SSM the most with 70% compared to those 55+ at only 39% in favor.  Not surprisingly Republicans oppose it the most with only 28% favoring opposed to 69% of Democrats.

There are TONS more statistics over here that you should check out!

Come on America - we're on the right path!
