AIDS Foundation President to Step Down

I just received this email from AIDS Foundation Chicago and wanted to share it with you.

Dear Friends and Supporters:

After 20 amazing years at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC), I will be leaving this fabulous organization in January 2011 and begin my next life adventure as President/CEO of AIDS United.
AIDS United is a new Washington, DC-based national organization resulting from the merger of the National AIDS Fund and AIDS Action, two of the country's most respected HIV/AIDS agencies. AFC is a longtime staunch supporter of both organizations -- as a member of AIDS Action and a Community Partner of the National AIDS Fund -- and will be a critical ally of AIDS United going forward.

In typical AFC fashion, we do not miss a beat.  The AFC Board of Directors has appointed AFC Vice President David Ernesto Munar as the new CEO.  David has been with AFC for 19 years, and is one of the most respected HIV/AIDS leaders in the country.  With enormous talent and a huge heart, David will lead AFC to new heights, and he will work tirelessly to meet the needs and secure the rights of people affected by HIV/AIDS.  I am so grateful for all he has done and will continue to do for AFC and the fight against HIV/AIDS here in Chicago and throughout the world.  He is a superstar, and we are so lucky that he's our superstar!
This goodbye email is really a thank you.  A thank you to each and every AFC supporter.  You are the reason AFC is a strong, vibrant organization.  You are the reason we are able to lead the fight against HIV/AIDS in Chicago, and you are the reason we will end this pandemic.

Your love and generosity have propelled me and this fine organization for 20 years. I have run marathons and done triathlons with you.  I have Danced for Life with you and I have eaten a lot of chocolate with you. I have laughed, cried and shouted with you.

I commit to you that I will be an AIDS Foundation of Chicago champion and cheerleader until we end this pandemic.  I know I can count on you to be our champion and cheerleader, too.

With love and gratitude,
