You had a great time at Hollywood Beach this summer and now that the party is over it's time to clean up.
Labor Day has come and gone and unfortunately that means that the Chicago Park District has officially closed all of the beaches in the city.
Even though we had a cool summer, I know that I had a great time at Hollywood Beach, aka Kathy Osterman Beach. President Obama has been telling us that we need to give back to the community - and now is the perfect opportunity.
On Saturday, September 25th from 9AM-12PM State Rep Harry Osterman is scheduling an "End of Season" clean up of the beach.
More after the jump!
I'm a little upset because this is the first year that I won't be able to go because I'm traveling home to spend some time with my folks. But my bestie David will be there with some of his friends. To give you an idea of how important it is that we take care of all of our beaches, here's just a sampling of the trash that we picked up last year:
282 cigarette butts (and that was the first year of the smoking ban)
51 pieces of plastic
12 pieces of paper
In fact we picked up almost 400 pieces of trash, litter and debris in just a small section of the beach. So taking a few hours out of your weekend will make a huge impact!
RSVP to Ostermans office at (773) 784-2002 or email email@example.com to let them know you'll be there.
You can also sign up at the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
See you at the beach!
