June 27th is National HIV Testing Day, do you know your status?

This past week was Get Yourself Tested Week,  with events and programs in 10 cities across the country to get the word out on HIV testing.

It's important that you know your status and with the improvements in testing you no longer need to wait weeks to get the results, there are numerous sites across the city where you can go and receive rapid results - many free.  Howard Brown Health Center runs a walk-in health clinic that offers free rapid HIV testing and also offers free testing at bars and bathhouses through the city every day of the week.  Check the site for a full list of locations.

HIV is still a problem and the statistics are staggering, it's estimated that 1 in 5 people living with HIV don't know their status.  It's also estimated that those 20% of HIV+ people may be responsible for up to 70% of new infections.  Staggeringly, more than 1.1 million people in the US are currently living with HIV.

It's Pride Weekend, be in the know, know your status and protect yourself!
