Divorce Ban in California could be on the ballot

I've been saying for a while now that since they don't want to give gays the right to marriage then at least they should ban divorce - and it just may happen in California.

Late last month California Secretary of State Debra Bowen gave John Marcotte the go ahead to start collecting signatures to potentially add a question on the ballot to ban divorce in California.  He will need at least 694,354 signatures.

In essence it will remove the ability for people to get divorced but still allow for annulment of marriages - and one of the main reasons given?  It will save the government hundreds of millions of dollars by having fewer cases going through the court system.

Oh how I wish I lived in California right now!  Hey maybe if it works there we could do the same thing in Maine!  They got a chance to vote on our marriage, we should be able to vote on theirs.

ELIMINATES THE LAW ALLOWING MARRIED COUPLES TO DIVORCE. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. Changes the California Constitution to eliminate the ability of married couples to get divorced in California. Preserves the ability of married couples to seek an annulment. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Savings to the state of up to hundreds of millions of dollars annually for support of the court system due to the elimination of divorce proceedings.

    Finally. It is about time this is being put to a vote. However I wish they would not have given couples the ability to seek annulment.
