Oprah is shutting down Michigan Avenue from Ohio Street to the Chicago River on Tuesday, September 8th for a taping of her 24th Anniversay show.
The event is free and open to the public and is sure to snarl the city's downtown traffic. The Black Eyed Peas will perform hits from their current album "The E.N.D." along with other surprise guests that haven't been announced yet.
Oprah is planning on shutting down Michigan Avenue from Ohio Street (where the Westfield Shopping Center is) all the way to the Chicago River where the stage will be set up at the entrance to the Michigan Avenue bridge facing towards the Tribune Tower. Download a detailed copy of the map.
Since the event is free and open to the public, there's going to be a huge turnout, because afterall it is Oprah! The gates will open at 12PM sharp, but taping doesn't start until 5PM. So plan on spending your afternoon standing around on Michigan Ave once you get through the gates. BUT, if you're a super-duper Oprah fan you can submit a request to stand in the Biggest Fan section closest to the stage - but be prepared to tell Oprah why you deserve that section though!
Oprah makes a big point on her page that it's first-come-first-served and that if you do come, be prepared to stand around. No seats will be provided at the event, as well no food will be available, but porta-potties, cooling buses, water stations and EMT's will be available. It'll be a long day of waiting, but you'll get to see Oprah - maybe!
So are you planning on going to cheer in Oprah for her 24th Anniversary Show? Besides Oprah, who else would you like to see shut down Michigan Avenue and put on a show? Be sure to Twitter!
