"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Now you can take a step out and over the city of Chicago on the new "Ledge at the Sears Tower Sky Deck.
I'm sure you've been to the Sears Tower and seen the purpoted "50 mile view" although everytime I've been there I've only been able to see 40 miles or so, but I'll take their word for it. Now you can get a completely different view of the city as you take a step out onto one of the four new glass ledges that project more than 4 feet out from the 103rd floor observation deck.
You'll have the chance to look straight down and get an unobstructed view of Wacker Drive and the Chicago River like you've never seen before. If you're afraid of heights this may not be the place for you though!
There's no need to worry about safety, the glass enclosures are constructed from three-layers of tempered glass that has been laminated into one seamless unit, so you get a fully unobstructed view. It will hold up to 5 tons and is retractable so that they can clean it (inside and out) to give you a picture perfect view.
In addition to The Ledge, they have updated the exhibits as well as created a totally new experience where you stand on a platform and it shows you the view of other landmarks in the city as though you were viewing them from the 103rd floor observatory.
