I just got an email from a friend of mine at the Coalition for Justice and Respect (CJR) that there is a rally scheduled to be held at the Thompson Center this morning at 11:30 and your help is needed!
As I'm sure you are well aware, there have been massive cuts made to the upcoming State Budget and one of the hardest hit areas has been for programs that are funded through the Illinois Department of Public Health. The cuts that have been called for will affect all levels of support from prescription drugs to prevention programs and many communited based public health education programs - programs that reach a very crucial and critical population of the LGBT Community.
Here's some info from the Facebook Page:
Recently the city of Chicago department public health released data indicating that the rate of infection of HIV in the African-American communities greater than any other racial group. This is the time that all efforts need to be directed at responses that motivate and direct and should not be distracted by side show antics.
If you care about the quality of life of the most venerable, african-american youth, come to a rally today at 11:30 a.m. at the Thompson center and call for no cuts in public health. Nothing you do today will be more important than coming to this rally and showing your support.
If you have to leave for lunch early, if you have to work a little later tonight to make up for it this it will be time well spent. We on the brink of a pending potential crisis and you can do something about it. Let your presence known and your voices heard. The state needs to pass a balanced budget based on sincerity and hope putting all else aside. The people of this state deserve at least this.
