Sprout San Francisco to open in Chicago

Sprout San Francisco to open in Chicago
I am lucky to live in Wicker Park, one of the best shopping neighborhoods in the city. Of course, I don't really have a ton of time to browse boutiques and I usually have three kids (and six grubby, curious hands) with me so we don't tend to do a lot of shopping together in the 'ol neighborhood. BUT from time to time I need a new baby present or a gift for a kiddo's birthday party and I have fantastic local options. I used to frequent Grow Modern Kids for eco-conscious baby gifts and gear (until it shuttered last fall). Happily, Sprout San Francisco  is going to be opening its doors on April 21 in the same space at 1943 W. Division...

GRASP Groups: Real Support for Real Moms

GRASP Groups: Real Support for Real Moms
When I first became a mother seven years ago, I couldn’t believe that none of the other mothers I knew (including my close friends and even my own mother) ever really spoke frankly to me about some of the more difficult and trying parts of motherhood — beginning with labor and delivery. I just had... Read more »

Grow Books: Cultivating Imaginations Right Here in Chicago

Grow Books: Cultivating Imaginations Right Here in Chicago
I love a good surprise. When my kiddos recently received an intriguing package from Grow Books, we weren’t exactly sure what to expect. What we discovered inside our neatly-wrapped, rectangular, red package actually isn’t a book at all. Local Chicago company (by now you surely know that I am a sucker for all-things local) Grow... Q&A with HipMum

Have you heard about HipMum? Even if you haven’t, don’t you love the idea? A site devoted to helping moms hold on to a bit of their “hip” while they are mired in the day-to-day chaos of raising kiddos? Aspirational, maybe. But in a good way, I think. I recently had a chance to learn... Read more »

LUNAFEST (This one is just for you, mama)

What mom couldn’t use a girl’s night out from time to time? Better yet, a girl’s night out that supports other women AND benefits important non-profit and charitable organizations in our community? My new friend Jackie Dorris of Stroller Strides (more on my new-found love for Stroller Strides next week) told me about a great... Read more »

The K. Grace Experience: Flexible and Convenient Babysitting in Chicago -- Part One

The truth is that I don’t actually get out all that much. Most days, I am quite happy to just hang out at home tending to the needs of the little people in my life. But sometimes Mommy needs to get some work done — or have a night out with Daddy — or get... Read more »

Mamaloot partners with the Greater Chicago Food Depository for the holiday season (and continues to bring you amazing deals on the stuff you buy for your family)

There is a ton of shopping to be done this time of year (even if you are trying to keep things simple). I greet this annual holiday spend-a-thon with a mix of excitement and revulsion. On the one hand, I want to give thoughtful gifts to the people I love. I also want to show... Read more »
