Homemade with Love by Jennifer Perillo: Family dinner is served!

Homemade with Love by Jennifer Perillo: Family dinner is served!
A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to a lovely luncheon hosted by Jennifer Perillo, the author of the new cookbook Homemade with Love. Jennifer is a Brooklyn-based mama of two who has long shared her own style of home cooking on her site In Jennie's Kitchen. Jennie's life was turned upside down when she recently lost her husband. The recipes in her book celebrate some of her husband's family favorites. Truly, this book is a celebration of the family meal.  Jennie cooks real, delicious food for her girls. She sets a simple, but elegant table and they sit and eat their meals together. I love this about her...

The American Cheese Revolution is coming to Chicago

The American Cheese Revolution is coming to Chicago
We eat a lot of cheese at our house. Lots of it. But not all cheeses are created equally (obviously). And many cheeses are full of processed gunk that isn't good for kids (or their parents for that matter). For this reason, we buy a lot of Organic Valley cheese (and other dairy).  If you are an Organic Valley fan, there is a local opportunity to learn more about their products and health initiatives. Organic Valley’s American Cheese Revolution Tour, http://www.AmericanCheeseRevolution.com, a multi-city mobile tour and online pledge drive inviting parents to demand real food for real kids, is headed to Chicago October 19-21. Chicago foodies and families are invited to meet up with the tour to sample grilled cheese sandwiches, play in the photo booth and sign the Real Food Pledge. Organic Valley has committed to donate $1(up to $25,000) for each signature to Healthy Child Healthy World...

Raising Vegan Kids in Chicago

Raising Vegan Kids in Chicago
I am not a vegan and I am not raising my kids as vegans. But the whole concept intrigues me. On the one hand, we definitely are limiting animal protein in our diet and eating more vegetable and grain based meals. On the other hand, I am not sure that I want to live a life without cheese. Even though we are definitely bacon-eaters at our house,  I was interested in the idea of raising vegan kids and all of the issues that may arise (mostly in social settings). For example, what does a vegan kid do when the baseball team goes out for pizza or at a classmate's birthday party when everyone is digging into a conventional cake and ice cream...

Proud to be a Stonyfield Yo-Getter

Proud to be a Stonyfield Yo-Getter
My love for Stonyfield (not just the products -- but the company too) is no secret. I've already posted about my a-mah-zing lunch with Gary, the (now former) CE-Yo of Stonyfield and my very interesting invite to see author Robyn O'Brien speak about genetically modified ingredients and food allergies while dining at Naha (again, yum). Honestly, I am so grateful to have had these unique educational opportunities, thanks to the super nice folks at Stonyfield.  These interactions have made me think hard about where I spend my weekly grocery budget. So I was frankly pretty thrilled when Stoneyfield asked me to be one of their "Yo-Getters...

An early Mother's Day present -- to myself

I love my family. I love being the mama of three incredibly delightful little people. But sometimes, I find myself totally exhausted. I know that you mamas out there know what I am talking about.  Our day-to-day lives are hectic and sometimes it is nice to have a break — I am not talking about... Read more »
