I am lucky to have a beautiful city backyard. Every summer, I think to myself, "We should invite our friends and family over for a backyard movie party this summer." But I've never actually put this plan into action.
This year, I wrote a story for Chicago Parent Magazine to actually MAKE myself plan the party.
This isn't meant to be a big, fancy, blow-the-bank shindig. A backyard movie party can be anything from renting a projector and a screen to simply moving your television and DVD player outside for the evening.
The real fun is in the details. Create "admit one" movie tickets to welcome guests. Provide empty boxes so kids can decorate their own "drive-in-movie" cars. Set up a popcorn bar with a variety of toppings (or rent a popcorn machine). Have one of your kids pass mini candy bars out to guests.
The whole point is to get friends and family together for a lovely summer evening together.
