Have you ever been sailing on Lake Michigan? I don't necessarily mean that YOU have to sail. Even if you don't have the first clue about operating a sailboat, you can still get out there. All you need to do is reach out to the super nice folks at Chicago Sailing and THEY will do the sailing while you kick back, enjoy a drink and marvel at the gorgeous city skyline. Of course, if you actually want to learn to sail, Chicago Sailing can help you with that too.
Last Friday, we took our kids sailing with Chicago Sailing as a special family outing on my birthday. We all had a blast. We met our captain Ben at Belmont Harbor. He outfitted the kids with life jackets and we were off! He let each of the kids "steer" and made sure we were all having a great time. The boat had a large living area (complete with a bathroom -- a must for sailing with kiddos who constantly seem to have to "go"). When we returned to the harbor, we all agreed that we should definitely to this again.
Chicago Sailing offers instructional courses, captained charters, sailboat rentals and more. This company has something for beginners up through experienced boaters. This is a really fun family activity and a great way to expose kids to boating. If you don't want to bring the kids along, it would be fun to book a captained charter with two other couples and spend an evening on the lake (or even take the boat over to Northerly Island for a concert).
Lake Michigan is one of the city's best assets and this offering is a totally new way to experience it. Highly, highly recommend that you plan a sailing excursion this summer. It will be one of the highlights of the season.
