Opportunities to explore Chicago parks this summer

You may not necessarily associate Chicago with the great outdoors. But there are plenty of beautiful outdoor spaces for Chicago families to explore. June is National Camping Month and The North Face Explore Your Parks program is encouraging families to get outdoors and enjoy the nation’s treasured and endangered State Parks this summer.

Through Explore Your Parks, The North Face events across the country (and several great opps right here in Chicago!)  for families that are new to camping, or for those who could use a refresher.  The events offer advice and tips from park experts, as well as the necessary gear for first-time campers who want to join a group camping experience or camp on their own.

The North Face and Chicago Park District offer the opportunity to learn to camp in an urban setting, under the stars, with the Chicago skyline as the backdrop.  The Chicago Park District’s expert team teaches camping basics and offers guided nature hikes, fishing, stories around the campfire and more at several scheduled camping events.  Camping on Chicago Park District property is only allowed during organized camping events.  There are several Family Camping events on the calendar.  Registration is required.  To register and for more information, visit: www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/events/camping/.
