I love a story about good people doing good things to help others! I wanted to share info on a local organization of girls working to make life better for other girls around the globe. Go girls!
Girls Supporting Girls raises awareness of the at-risk status of girls in the developing world. Through educational and fundraising activities, they support the efforts of the non-profit group Room to Read to build schools and libraries.
Room to Read partners with local communities in Asia and Africa to build schools, libraries, and other educational infrastructure. By intervening early in the lives of children to provide educational opportunities, the socioeconomic conditions of families, communities and even countries are greatly improved. Room to Read strives to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.
On Sunday, May 4, 2014, Girls Supporting Girls is hosting their first annual Build Bash to support Project Cambodia. Tickets are $50 per family (admits up to five people). The event is being held at the Bucktown Ballroom (1810 N. Hermitage, Chicago). This open house includes live entertainment, crafts, face painting, yoga and more. The entire family can have a blast while raising critical funds to build a school in Cambodia. Sponsors include some of my local faves like The Storybook Mom, Big Star Taco, Glazed and Infused and Ralph's World.
