August is not back-to-school shopping time. Yes, the stores tell you that August is the time that you need to stock up on new everything for your soon-to-be-school-bound kiddos. Every single one of them needs new: shoes, fall jackets, long pants, long sleeve shirts, sweaters or hoodies, winter coats, gloves, hats and scarves. And then of course they also need new school shoes, new gym shoes, rain boots and of course new snow boots.
After doing lots of August shopping in yeas past, I've realized that my kids do not need 80% of these items before the first day of school. In fact, they will end up wearing their summer clothes through most of September (save for one or two chilly days here and there). Plus, they grow so fast that their sizes can literally change in just a matter or a couple of months.
The time to shop for back-to-school is now, not August.Back in August, I was invited to an event at The Children's Place that I was unable to attend. They folks organizing the event were kind enough to send me a gift card for $100 anyway (I know. How nice is that?).
I recently took my two boys (ages 6 and 3 1/2) on an online shopping spree at The Children's Place and I was able to purchase a huge amount of fall and winter clothing with my $100. My boys are both somewhat finicky about what they wear. I wanted them to have a say in their wardrobe so we wouldn't have morning battles over clothes.
Both of my boys chose a variety of long-sleeved t-shirts and sporty pants. They love everything they got and wear them all happily. I was able to purchase 5 pairs of pants and 6 shirts for about $100 and that makes me happy too.
Back-to-school shopping (five weeks after school started) made easy!
Disclosure: I received a $100 gift card to the Children's Place. I'd never shopped there before but I really liked the stuff we got. We will definitely shop there again in the future. I was not compensated for this post.
