“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” (Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”)
How much Dr. Seuss do you read at your house? I myself just finished The Cat in the Hat Comes Back an hour ago (love that one). If you are Dr. Seuss fans, I've got a family event for you (featuring some of my very favorite creative people -- Nili and Candice -- I am looking at you).
On Saturday, March 3rd, Open Books (213 W. Institute Place, Chicago) encourages adults and children alike to experience the joy of reading with a one-day celebration in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and national Read Across America day. Bringing Seuss’ creative, wacky, and educational novels alive, the day will feature three special guests, each paired with a unique Seuss-inspired activity.
- At 1:00 p.m., Seuss-themed dramatic play and theatre games with the Emerald City Theatre Company will help kids explore their imagination.
- At 2:00 p.m., Nili Yelin, the renowned Storybook Mom, will have kids laughing and moving through her interactive story time. She will read a variety of Dr. Seuss books while entertaining and engaging children through her “Sit Down Stand-Up” storytelling method.
- At 3:00 p.m. The Wishcraft Workshop will inspire budding, young artists to bring the world of Seuss to life with craft projects.
In between all the scheduled activities, Open Books will offer Seuss fans of all ages creative face painting, sweet treats, and imaginative coloring.
In addition to these unique experiences, guests can bring the excitement of the day home with them thanks to a 20% discount on all children’s books (collection of 10,000) at the Open Books store during Dr. Seuss Day.
