I am a total sucker for the Chicago Children's Museum. I just love the place and all that it has to offer families. We have a good time each and every visit. In addition to the usual favorites, the Chicago Children's Museum has some special programming planned for African American History Month (February, already!). Mark your calendars for these worthwhile events and activities.
African American Heritage Celebration
Feb. 2, 5-8 pm
Meet representatives from Chicago organizations promoting African American heritage, and enjoy unforgettable performances by Intonation Music Workshop. Additional activities include bookmaking and drum-thumb pianos.

We are history! Learn what important African Americans in history were like as children—search the museum for clues and activities. Visitors will receive a booklet with engaging activities that correlate with each featured African American. (People include Kaitlin Judkins, Norma Merrick, Selma Burke, Bill Pinkey, Benjamin Banneker, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.)
Notable Authors Meet and Greet

Children and families will “meet and greet” notable authors throughout history (impersonated by museum staff), and participate in engaging hands-on activities, including making books and wacky instruments.
Max Found Two Sticks

Join CCM for a dramatized production of this children’s book, written by African American author Brian Pinkey. Additional activities include bookmaking, drum-thumb pianos and drum major hats.
America’s Got Courage

Search for leaders, heroes and other brave people who have made a difference. Chat with these important Americans (played by museum staff), and learn how they shaped the country we live in today.
Kraft Artabounds Studio Visiting Artist
Feb. 16: 5:30 and 7:30 pm
Feb. 18-20: 1, 2 and 3 pm
Work with African American fiber artist Tiffany Grimes to create fabulous fashions that highlight the uniqueness of every child. Learn a few fiber art tips and tricks while creating a one-of-a-kind wearable piece of art!
