The city of Chicago is a surprisingly small place -- at least my neighborhood is. Despite the fact that we live amongst millions of other Chicagoans, we truly have a small neighborhood. We know the families that live on our block and meet up with lots of neighborhood buddies at Wicker Park. We have a local grocer, bank, and pharmacy. And we of course have a local toy store. I have been frequenting Building Blocks Toys at their Wicker Park location (2130 W. Division) since they opened their doors in 2008. Trust me when I tell you that this store's reputation as the best toy store in Chicago is well-deserved.
We are always welcome at Building Blocks. I have come to know the owner personally and now count her as one of my friends. The staff is always welcoming to my children. With their able help, I can pick up a birthday present and have it wrapped and ready to go in under 10 minutes (this is key for last-minute present shopping, my friends).
Building Blocks recently had a 15th anniversary fete that truly wowed my little ones. We met Elmo (yes! in person!). Ellie was treated to her first mini-manicure. Katherine McHenry, the owner of Building Blocks sent my kiddos home with an extremely generous selection of goodies selected just for them. My little toy-lovers were beyond thrilled (and I was beyond thrilled when they decided to share some of their loot with their cousins -- without me even having to suggest it).
Building Blocks is also known for it's great in-store events. This week, Building Blocks is hosting several story times in honor of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. Building Blocks has pledged to donate $15 to Jumpstart on behalf of each child who attends the story time events. Each story time lasts one hour. Snacks and refreshments will be served after the story time. Check out the full schedule of special readers for the week:
Wednesday Oct 5, 10:30am: Sarah Cobb, Executive Director of NPN (go Sarah!)
Thursday Oct. 6, 12noon: Judy Oliva, Divisional VP of Bright Horizons Early Education & Preschool
Friday Oct. 7, 11am, Brenna Woodley, Found of Bundle of Joy Diaper Bank
Come on out and support this great local business and this wonderful cause.
