You totally aren't taking advantage of all that the Art Institute has to offer

What, you say! Not me! We love the Art Institute! We take advantage of as many free admission days as we can! We are regulars at the Ryan Education Center in the Modern Wing! My husband and I meet for lunch at Terzo Piano whenever we can sneak away for a daytime date!

Yes, still. The truth is that the Art Institute of Chicago has so much to offer families that you realistically could not take advantage of all of it. But I still wanted to mention some great upcoming programming that is probably not on your radar.

  • October 8: Teen Workshop: Animated Art. Teens (age 13-19) can visit the galleries to gather inspiration and then create their own animated short usig new technology and traditional art materials. To register, email teens@artic.edu.
  • October 29: Family Festival: Diwali. Drop in to the Ryan Education Center between 10:30 and 3:00 to participate i Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Kids can create a work of art inspired by Indian traditions and enjoy guided dance workshops.
  • October 30: Family Yoga and Art. Participants of all ages can breathe, stretch, relax and discover their inner serenity at in introductory yoga class. Many of the poses will be inspired by a gallery visit. The cost for this program is $25 for one adult and child. (We are planning on signing up for this one).
  • Artful Alphabets: Five Picture Book Artists. This continuing exhibit in the Ryan Education Center explores how different illustrators depict the ABC's.

Visit the Art Institute website for a full listing of upcoming events (for the kids and even for you, mom and dad).
