Autism Awareness Month: Advice from a local expert

I am sure that you know a family that has been affected by an autism spectrum disorder. We know many who have. Many.

April is Autism Awareness Month. The objective is simply to "highlight the growing need for concern and awareness about autism." I think that part of increasing awareness is knowing the best local resources available to help families dealing with this complicated issue.

One such resource is Dr. Aoife Lyons, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the Lakeview neighborhood. Her clinic, Dr. Aoife Lyons and Associates offers a variety of services for children and their families in a welcoming, non-threatening environment. She offers Psychoeducational assessments for children of any age who may be struggling with issues such as attention (ADHD, ADD), learning (LD), sensory regulation (SID), developmental delays (DD) and autism spectrum disorders (PDD or Asperger's).

As part of the assessment process, Dr. Lyons provides families with detailed recommendations and advocates for early intervention.  She also has a great list of links and resources on her site about autism and many other topics.

Kate over a Big City Belly just posted a Q & A with Dr. Lyons on her site. Wondering how early autism can be diagnosed? Do you have concerns about your child but feel unsure of what your next step should be? Check out this very informative post.

Disclosure: Dr. Lyons is a client of 2 Moms Media.
