Hey, bikers (I am talking to the folks who do the pedaling and those little bike enthusiasts who just take in the scenery) . . . The MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive event is coming up on May 30, 2010.
This is a rare opportunity for bike-loving Chicagoans to safely pedal up and down Lake Shore Drive while the road is closed to traffic for a few hours. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning. You certainly can't beat the view!
For city kids who don't often get to freely ride their bikes without fear of being hit by speeding taxicabs, this event is an especially cool chance to get out on the road.
Families with older kids can all register and pedal individually (the registration price for kids is $15 and that includes a t-shirt). Little kids who are riding in bike trailers are free of charge. Be sure to check out the helpful tips for riding with kids on the official website.
The event kicks off at 5:30 a.m. (or whenever the police give the green light). Participants must enter at Columbus and Jackson. Volunteers will start moving riders onto the Lakefront Trail around 9:00 a.m.
The post-ride festival promises family-friendly activities and some food to fuel up for the ride back home.
Visit the website to register and get all of the details.
