Chicago is full of opportunities for your child to see live performances -- whether it be music, comedy, or theater. March is a good time to take advantage of some of these excellent local opportunities. Looking for ideas? I've got a few for you.
Billy Jonas Fun-raiser Concert to benefit JRC's Early Childhood Center. The organizers of this event asked me to tell you about this family opportunity. They are pleased to welcome native Chicagoan Billy Jonas back to the Windy City to perform next weekend. This event is taking place on Sunday, March 14th at 4:00 pm at the JRC (303 Dodge Avenue, Evanston). Tickets $15 (available at jrcbillyjonas.eventbrite.com or at the door). Parking and children under one are free.
Barrel of Monkeys. This Chicago-based arts education theater ensemble has added a Sunday show of their popular weekly showcase That's Weird, Grandma for a limited time.
Barrel
of Monkeys' long-running hit is a hilarious, bizarre and high-energy
presentation of songs and sketches written by kids. Here is how it
works. The material originates from the Monkeys teaching of creative
writing workshops in the Chicago public schools system, then their
ensemble of actors, comedians, musicians and playwrights adapts some of
the thousands of stories generated by children for stage
presentation.
Performances take place on Sundays at 2:00pm
through April 4th at The Neo-Futurarium (5153 N. Ashland Ave.). In
addition, the regular Monday evening performances will resume their
open run on March 15th. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children
(12 and under) and can be purchased at 312.409.1954 or BarrelofMonkeys.org.
The Ankle Todd Show. Critics
are raving about this all-ages comedy performance. The Ankle Todd Show
invites you to be a part of their live "studio audience" and be
entertained by the cast of clowny characters led by the zany Mr.
Pants.
The goal of The Ankle Todd Show is to promote
creativity, inspire imagination, and highlight simple, playful fun in a
family-friendly theater experience through fun segments such as kid
news, a science experiment kids can do at home, healthy and nutritious
snack recipes, and much, much, more! Each show is a different
"episode" with fun themes everyone will enjoy and learn from.
Performances
take place on Saturdays at 4:00 pm. at The Playground Theater (3209 N.
Halsted, Chicago). The Ankle Todd Show has been extended through the
end of March.
