Are you totally broke after the holidays? Me too.
But the show must go on. Kids still need to be entertained and parents need an occasional escape from the confines of home -- particularly in the winter. This is the time of year when free museum days are a lifesaver.
Here is a list of upcoming free and discounted days at some of your favorite local museums:
Free admission: Tuesdays in January and February
Discount admission: January 11-15, February 8-12 and March
2, 9, 16 and 23.
Free admission: 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, as well as all day every day
for the entire month of February -- yes, the entire month! And remember that kids under
14 are always free.
Chicago Children's Museum
Free admission: 5-8 p.m. every Thursday for Kraft Free Family night;
first Sunday of every month for kids 15 and under for Target Free
Chicago History Museum
Free admission: Free every Monday. Children 12 and under are free
Free admission: January
11, 13, 14, 19, 20, 26, 27; February 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 16, 17, 23, 24;
March 2, 3, 8
Discount days (free general admission only): Mondays and Tuesdays in January and February
Discount Week: January 16-21
Museum of Contemporary Art
Free admission: Tuesdays 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Family Days: Free for families with kids age 12 and under on 11 a.m. -3 p.m. family January 9 and February 13.
Museum of Science and Industry
Free admission: January 4-29 (weekdays only).
Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
Donation suggested: Thursdays
