Looking for something to do for the long holiday weekend? I am thinking scarecrows, fall leaves, and cozy forts.

St. Charles Scarecrow Festival.
Scarecrows aren't for everyone, but if your kids think they are cool (and not terrifying), head out to St. Charles for their 24th annual scarecrow festival. Event highlights include live entertainment, a petting zoo and paddleboat cruises on the Fox River. On Saturday October 10, the Meijer St. Charles store is sponsoring a Kid's Zone from noon until 3:00 pm that includes storytelling, dancing, face painting, clowns and
make-it-and-take-it crafts.
Visit the website for more details.

Visit the Morton Arboretum.
The Morton Arb is worth a visit any time of year -- but I think that fall is particularly spectacular here. The Fall Color Festival is taking place right now. Special events include pumpkin play in the Children's Garden.

Check out the Forts Exhibit at the Chicago Children's Museum. If the weather turns out to be as chilly as predicted, you might just want to hang out indoors. Could be a good weekend to check out the recently opened Forts Exhibit at the Children's Museum. Kids can use a variety of materials to create their perfect hideaway. And then of course you can take advantage of all of the other great activities in this space.

Have a good weekend with your little ones.
