Theater on the Lake is an experience that is unique to Chicago. Where else can you see live theater in an open air setting with both the lakefront and city skyline as the backdrop? Usually, the Chicago Park District's Theater on the Lake program is an adults-only outing -- but next week the performances are kid-friendly. This would be a great summer family outing. Here are the details.
From July 22nd through the 26th, Barrel of Monkeys will be performing "Fun O'Clock: A Very Special That's Weird, Grandma." This show is a mixture of favorites from old shows and new material. Barrel of Monkeys isn't your average performance group. They work with the Chicago Public Schools and kids actually pen much of the material they perform.
I spoke to an actual live person at Barrel of Monkeys who assured me that the show is truly for all ages and kids as young as five or six would "get it." The show runs about one hour and fifteen minutes long (which is about as long as my kids will sit still anyway).
The shows start at 7:30pm (6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26th). Theater on the Lake is located at Fullerton and, you guessed it, the lake. Tickets are $17.50. Call the Theater On The Lake Box Office at 312-742-7994
for ticket information.
