Looking for some fun family events for the upcoming weekend? I did all the hard work for you -- here are your two best bets.
Open Streets. This
is a rare chance for your little city rats to roam the streets without
fear of being hit by a speeding taxi. On Saturday, August 1st from 8:30
am until 2:00 pm, eight miles of streets from Logan Square down to
Little Village will be open to the public to walk, bike and play -- no
cars. Kids can stop in at activity stations along the way for musical
performances, arts and crafts and games.
Retro on Roscoe.
Like I've said before, every summer street festival claims to be
family-friendly -- but only a few end up actually having much to offer
kids. Well, I have to admit that Retro on Roscoe is one of the street
festivals that really is for families. The event takes place on August
1st and 2nd and the kid's area is open from noon until 5:00 pm on both
days. Retro on Roscoe offers your typical street festival activity
choices -- face painting, crafts, and balloon artists. But the best
part is the musical line up. On Saturday you can catch Ralph's World and on Sunday Justin Roberts performs. These two guys are as good as it gets when it comes to local children's music-- the kids won't be disappointed.
you decide to take advantage of one of these great events or just
lounge at your local park, get out there and enjoy summer -- it's
August already, you know.
