Summer continues to fly by. How could it be almost August? How? And the seemingly endless parade of awesome things to do with kids in Chicago rolls on. If you are looking for something fun to do with the whole family, here are a few options.
Venetian Night. When you think Venetian Night, you probably think crowds and traffic nightmares. But your kid thinks boats!, lights!, so cool! Venetian Night is modeled after boat parades in Venice. This is a spectacle that your future skipper will really enjoy.
The boat parade starts at 8:30 p.m. and the fireworks follow. Warning: prepare yourself for some serious crowds at
The Street Fests. Everywhere you turn, there is some sort of street festival going on every single weekend in Chicago. Some of these events are kid-friendly . . . others not so much. If you are into bringing the whole gang out for food and music in the streets, you could hit either Wicker Park Summer Fest or the 26th Annual Taste of Lincoln Avenue.
Wicker Park Summer Fest promises a petting zoo, a bounce house and face painting in their kid's area. Taste of Lincoln Avenue will have pony rides, a petting zoo and live entertainment for the kiddos. Both will surely have lots of beer and sausage for mom and dad.
Catch the Criterium. On Sunday, the City is hosting a Criterium
in Grant Park. A what, you say? A criterium
is a fast-paced, closed-circuit bike race. This is exciting stuff to watch. At 2pm, kids can participate in a Big
Wheel Race for free (space is limited to 200 kids). All participants receive a helmet, shirt and medal.
Happy weekending Chicago!
