Kids who are looking for a good place to run, jump or swing have lots of great choices in Chicago. We have parks with swings and slides, parks with sandboxes, parks with water features, and parks with lots of green space to run and run and run.
One of our favorite parks is Adams Playground Park, located on Seminary in Lincoln Park. This park got all new playground equipment three years ago and has lots to offer kids of various ages. The park also features a sandbox with some communal toys. I would say that the sandbox is slightly cleaner than the average sandbox (but I try not to think about it too much). The park also has some grassy spots where you can spread out with a picnic. The parking is usually pretty easy to find (by Lincoln Park standards).
By far the best feature of the park is the water playground area. The water area is a separate, fenced-off space that includes a water slide and multiple other fun water apparatuses. This is a wonderful resource for families living in Chicago (where a nice pool or place to cool off can be hard to come by). The hours for the water park can be pretty sporadic so you might want to call ahead or pick up a schedule.
On July 1st, Adams Playground Park is hosting a Toddler, Tunes, and Turtles event where activities will include a sing-a-long, dress up and hands-on nature activities.
One last secret . . . Adams Playground Park is a great place to have your kid's birthday party. For a very reasonable fee, you can have exclusive use of the picnic table area. Invite your guests and their families to join you for some fun in the water park. Order some pizzas, bring along some balloons and cupcakes and you have yourself an easy birthday party.
Which parks do you and your little ones especially love?
