Cubs bullets

  • You know you're struggling when your team sends you down to Triple-A without even making a corresponding roster move. That's what happened to Tyler Colvin yesterday, and I'm all for it. As I said last week, I like Colvin and still believe he has potential, but he couldn't hit a beach ball right now.
  • Andrew Cashner will undergo an MRI on his shoulder after feeling tightness on Monday. Congratulations, Doug Davis! You get to be a major leaguer for a few more weeks!
  • On a more positive note, Randy Wells will make a rehab start tonight in Peoria and could rejoin the Cubs as early as next week.
  • The Cubs are 1-3 against the Reds this year, including a game they lost 5-4 and left eight guys on base, a game they lost 2-0 after leaving nine on base, and last night's debacle in which they gave up seven runs in the sixth to blow a four-run lead. If the Cubs were just 3-1 against the Reds, they'd be just two games behind Cincy and 2.5 out of first.

  • Cubs called up Tony Campana, probably to pinch run and pinch hit. Can't see him playing much. He's a poor man's Doug Dascenzo.

The Cashner news stinks. Why can't we keep a great arm healthy? At least Wells is coming back so the Cubs can stop starting Casey Coleman.
